Aligned with the FDI World Dental Federation Vision 2030 and the World Health Organization Global Oral Health Strategy 2023–2030, and supporting the mission of the Alliance for a Cavity-Free Future (ACFF), this initiative envisions a future where oral health is fully integrated into general healthcare systems. By prioritizing prevention, public awareness, and equitable access to quality dental care, the goal is to reduce the global burden of oral diseases and enable future generations to achieve and maintain optimal oral health.
TALEEM-E-MUSKAAN:
KALAM EXPEDITION 2026
DAY 1 -EDUCATE
Access to oral healthcare remains a distant reality for many communities living in remote and underserved regions. In a powerful demonstration of commitment and compassion, APDSA, through its flagship initiative "Taleem-e-Muskaan", embarked on a remarkable North Expedition to bridge this gap;
bringing awareness, prevention, and treatment to those who need it the most.
The journey began in Rawalpindi, where a teacher training program was conducted in Allied Schools Peshawar Road Campus.
This marked the very first step in empowering educators, the multipliers of knowledge to instill oral health awareness among young minds.
This foundational effort laid the groundwork for what would become a far-reaching mission aligned with the global goals of FDI World Dental Federation Vision 2030, aiming for optimal oral health for all.
DAY 2- AWARENESS
From there, the Taleem-e-Muskaan team set out on an ambitious expedition to Kalam, a region known for its breathtaking beauty but limited access to healthcare facilities.
Undeterred by challenges, including difficult terrain and the risks posed by glacier melt; the team pressed forward with unwavering resolve.With a heart full of dedication and compassion, volunteer dentists from Lahore and Islamabad provided on-site consultations, transforming roadside spaces into makeshift clinics, engaged directly with local communities; identifying oral health issues, addressing people’s concerns, and spreading awareness about preventive oral care.
A particularly heartwarming aspect of the expedition was the distribution of Colgate oral hygiene kits among street children and local patients. These small yet meaningful gestures not only promoted better oral hygiene practices but also reinforced the message that oral health is a fundamental right, not a privilege.
DAY 3- SCREEN & TREAT
APDSA extended its outreach to Kalam by carrying portable dental unit, making on-site oral healthcare a reality in a region with limited access. Volunteer dentists performed essential procedures such as scaling, addressing immediate dental needs of the local population. This hands-on approach ensured timely relief for patients who otherwise lacked access to basic care. Through this initiative, APDSA reinforced its commitment to delivering practical and impactful oral health services wherever they are needed most.
Taleem-e-Muskaan’s North Expedition stands as a testament to APDSA’s dedication to going beyond conventional boundaries; geographical and societal, to serve humanity. It highlights how passion, resilience, and purpose can overcome even the most formidable challenges.
In reaching Kalam, APDSA didn’t just travel miles, it crossed barriers of access, awareness, and inequality. This initiative is more than a project; it is a movement toward a future where oral healthcare is accessible to all, no matter how far off the map they may be.
